How It Began

So this fascination I have with fixing everything stems from a very young age.
I have been told that I used to take apart my sister's toys and then try to put them back together. Supposively, her toys never worked the same as before. There is no proof of this, so I'll start from what I remember.

It was around 1992, I was almost 13 years old and this computer was awesome (for it's day and age).
It has DOS and no games. I had no idea what I was going to use it for, but that didn't stop me.
We didn't have internet back then, so I had to get books from the school library to learn how to use this thing. You had to insert this huge 5 1/4" Floppy Disk to boot up, and then when you wanted to run something you inserted the floppy of the program you wanted to run.
The hard drive on this thing was so small, maybe 10MB. Anyway, I thought I'd be smart and copy DOS to the hard drive to prevent the whole inserting a disk in. It worked, so I tried with my "Wheel of Fortune" game I had received for my birthday.
Well of course I ran out of hard drive space, so I started deleting in DOS. Well I didn't realize that I had to del all of the files and then remove the directory. I deleted all of the files and then did a "del .." which deleted my root and I lost my boot up.
If I have lost you, I apologize. The details are a little fuzzy, but the main point was that I had crashed my only computer, lost the original DOS disks, and had to find a way to recover what I'd done.
From then on, I really liked to troubleshoot things.

I'm a little stubborn too, so I have to try my way first before listening to anyone else.
It's one of my greatest flaws, but it comes in handy every now and then.

That is my story so far. I'm sure there's more to come.
